Grow - Praise - Serve

Pastor

Rev. Dr. Donald N. Hurley, Pastor

Hello, I'm Pastor Don,

Here is my story.   I felt the call to serve Christ at an early age.   I was raised in a Christian home where I first experienced the love of God.   But, I must confess that there was a time when I resisted God's claim on my life.   God's grace is definitely amazing because God's grace never gives up on us.   My life and ministry is a witness to that grace.

God has blessed me, opening doors for me to offer Christ in ways I could not have imagined.    My high school years were no indication of what or how God would use my life.   The best thing that happened to me was I married my high school sweet heart when I was 19 and she was 20.   Kathy and I have been married 41 years and God blessed us with two sons.   Our oldest son, David and his wife Brooke live in South Williamsport, PA.  On July 2, 2015, they celebrated the birth of their first child and our first granddaughter, Olive Saoirse Hurley.

Our youngest son, Bryan married Megan Davoli on October 12, 2013 and they live in Petersburg, PA. Kathy and I have a six year old step-grandson named Ben.

God opened the door for me to answer the call toward ordained ministry in 1980.   In 1981 I was licensed as local pastor and served a small congregation in State College, PA.  By God’s grace I graduated from Juniata College (Huntingdon, PA) in 1985.   I received a Masters in Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. in 1988 and I was ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church in 1990.   In 2004 I received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Wesley Theological Seminary.

Presently, I am celebrating my 14th year as the pastor of St. Peter’s. God is at work at St. Peter’s.   Sometimes we are slow to see what God is doing, and sometimes we are even slower to act on what God wants us to do; but it’s my job as pastor to offer Christ through Word, Sacrament, Order, Witness and Service so that our congregation will be faithful in our witness and fruitful in our service to Christ.

My wife, Kathy, and I enjoy camping in our RV.   I enjoy going for adventures on my Victory Motorcycle with my riding buddies.  My Siberian Husky and I enjoy daily adventures going for walks and biking.  And I am looking forward to having lots of grandchildren.

Now that I've shared my story, I am anxious to hear your story of what God is doing in your life.    So why not come Sunday morning at 10:15am so we can worship together.  After all worshiping God is at the heart of what it means for us to be followers of Jesus Christ.

Grace & Peace,

 Rev. Dr. Donald N. Hurley
